amor fati
Amor fati is a Latin phrase meaning “love of one’s fate”. This can be described as having the attitude that everything, good and bad, happens for a predetermined reason. And when someone sees everything that happens in their life, including suffering and loss as a necessary part of life, a level of acceptance and peace can occur. So when a loved one passes, especially in a tragic or unexpected way, amor fati thinking can remind you not to give way to negativity, but rather to fully embrace fate. The reality is we are not able to change the course of someone else’s fate, or life soul plan. Coming to terms to accept this concept can indeed release us of the guilts and burdens we may be feeling over the passing of our loved ones. It is quite normal to feel anger, frustration, sadness and despair when awful events occur, but remember that many things happen that are just way beyond our control. Amor fati is just a different way of looking at everything. Amor fati frees you by saying, “there is no other way things could have gone because they happened exactly as they should”. And by framing the past with this line of thinking, you can liberate yourself by letting go of the idea that you could have changed the course of fate of your loved ones whom you are grieving.
